The Lake Monsters, a collaborative project between Chicago’s Rotofugi and Squibbles Ink, is finally set to release its first toy after a production issue held up the scheduled “Fire on the Water” version. Instead, the “Seaweed” figure will now lead off the project with a menacing shock of green and aqua covering its Chris Ryniak-sculpted body. The toy will be available at Rotofugi Chicago starting at noon on Friday, June 5th, and will be released online later that same day.
One of three exhibits opening next Saturday at Corpo Nason Gallery, Nathan Spoor’s “The Glass Menagerie” is a astonishing, divergent exploration of the realizations that transition us from one stage of life to the next. With lush colors and wildly imaginative imagery, the exhibit is sure to both intrigue and challenge the viewer. An opening reception will be held on June 6th from 8-11:30 PM. The exhibit runs through June 27th.

Beautifully designed website for the band Orba Squara. To celebrate the release of the new album “The Trouble With Flying” Orba Squara takes a cross country adventure and documents the entire thing on a 430 foot long side scrolling website. This has to be the first site ever like this. Cool photography, fused with music and typography create a one of a kind experience for this truly interactive site. Too bad all web designers don’t put this much effort into their work… the internet might be a much better place!
Impressively self-taught L.A. artist Amanda Visell – who some might know for her toys, books, apparel, limited edition prints and her line of Dineyland apparel – has entered the designer toy fray. The result is the quirky pink elephant, now in its fourth installation, titled the Snake Oil Edition. The boxy elephant is given a wooden-like texture, while Doc Drunky – the delightful lush perched atop – is given a magnetic butt to keep him affiexed in place. Hit up this figure right here.
APC seldom does anything wrong, even if they do sometimes pull some things out of left field. And their latest collaborations are exactly that : they’ve combined with French indie-pop darlings The Teenagers and Koko Von Napoo. These tees are beautiful designs, even if you’re not a fan of either band (needless to say, they’re a step up on, say, Agoraphobic Nosebleed tees – at least for general audiences). And the result is amazing: they’ve cleaned up the sneaker, outifitting the it in mostly whites, and given it a touch of class, trimming it with a green and red strap.
