Nobody’s going to steal the thunder from this Toronto-based electrorap duo (frontwoman Isis and soundsmith Grahm Zilla). Thunderheist turn out “fun” music with undertones of disco, funk and R&B. In the past two and a half years they’ve rocked the stage and the Net with danceable, attitude-filled tunes like “Jerk It”, “Bubblegum”, and “Sueños Dulces”. Their relationship was born out of a MySpace interaction and although the first self-titled LP hit stores in just March of this year, they’ve been playing tours and festivals for quite some time. This year they’ve already completed a European tour with the addition of a live drummer and they’ll be back in North America for the rest of the summer. We chatted it up with Isis on a rare day-off in Washington, DC. Read more »

Mosley Tribes has collaborated with the likes of Crooks & Castles and Maharishi, among others, on some really great eyewear. Now they’re pairing up with Hellz to bring their eager audience some more. Hellz is dedicated to giving girls everywhere some clothes with an edge, and these glasses do the same. Though designed for the ladies, guys could take part in the fun seeing as the silhouette is fairly androgynous. The glasses will be available in either Tortoise Shell/Jade or Black/Red. Read more »

Comme Des Garçons has released some new wallets. They’re available in red, white, and black in a couple different styles; half of them are covered in contrasting white and the other half in debossed polka dots. And, in the tradition of French style, these chic little numbers are available at Colette. Read more »

No shared accommodations, resources, income or possessions in this Comune, however. And what’s more, Comune gear is 100% free of the insidious patchouli, b.o. and hummus odors we’ve come to associate with hippies and their living quarters. Rather, Comune gear is hard as fuck, fresh to death, ill like swine flu and clean like The Chosen Few.
We’ve been stoked on the innovative ideas our brands have been applying to traditional plaids lately, and the Comune effort may just be the new King of the Mountain. Not only is The Dekker Buttondown pattern a fresh, new take on conventional plaids, but the ultra-light cotton build makes this an instant keeper for the late-summer and throughout fall. We’re especially geeked for the panel stitching at the back, giving the shirt and pattern a crazy, abstract look while maintaining the ideal fit.
And although summer decided to finally make an appearance here in Boston, we’re jumping the gun and looking forward to fall weather to rock The B SZA Jacket (bottom right) properly, signature to Comune/Baker rider Brayden Szafranski. Waxed denim, also seen with The B SZA signature denims, is set to really blow up this fall after a successful test run by a few of the more brave companies last year. It’s not difficult to realize why after trying a pair on – not only do they look 100% better than standard black denim, but the sturdier fit rarely hears complaints (we stress, however, that pairing the denims and jacket together for an updated “Canadian tuxedo” look is for the fearless only).

This is just a quick peek at what Comune has in store (pun intended) for the summer – check out the rest of the debut at Karmaloop here!

Alakazam! has released a mini season (5.5 because 5 has already passed) consisting of four t-shirt inspired by science fiction/horror B movies, mythology, surrealism, and punk-pop-culture. The result of the Japanese-meets-British collaboration of Will Sweeney and Ayako Terashima is unlike most of what is on the market these days. If your interest is piqued, you can buy them here or here. Read more »

Set to release August 1st through Dreamland Toyworks, artist olive47 has crafted the adorable ‘Miss Cupcake.’ Olive47 hails from the West Coast but has relocated to London, where some delicious inspiration struck. These 3″ confections are available blind-packaged in four scrumptious flavors with one chase colorway. She’ll make the perfect companion and, says the artist, won’t bite back.

Vide-O-House West Of Wynwood’s Aaron Bondaroff has previewed O.H.W.O.W.’s upcoming project with NeckFace, entitled ‘Devil’s Disciple.’ The piece is shrouded in mystery, just like the artist, but more information should pop up on the O.H.W.O.W. web site soon. Read more »

This Sunday, the new Brooklyn Projects location in Pasadena will open its doors. To mark the occasion, The Hundreds has collaborated on a re-working of their signature ‘Adam Bomb’ logo to decorate a few shirts. The final product links up with the ‘City Of Roses’ theme with a light floral motif through the red on the logo. The black and white versions of the shirt will be available through Brooklyn Projects at the opening and the blue will be available through The Hundreds at some vague and unknown point in the future. Shirts after the jump. Read more »

To go with the anticipated drop of new premium Blazers, Nike has devised this strange shoe. Only available as a sample, the premium Hybrid is a combination of a Blazer sole and an interlaced suede upper, equipped with leather laces and lacing down the side. As a sample, it’s obviously deadstock but you can buy it at OSneaker—if you’re a size 9.

With redwood-sized roots in graffiti, skateboard and tattoo cultures, Mike Giant and business partner Josh D. of REBEL8 have been sketching, tagging, burning, biking and raging through the streetwear industry since 2003, always putting out the cleanest, meanest drops imaginable; typically featuring killer babes, skulls, snakes and imagery inspired by the other side of the border, REBEL8 lines more often than not pay tribute to those influences all at once (check The Muerte II Tee, top right).
The love for heavy metal and hip hop music is not lost on each design, and we would be complete idiots not to mention that all works are the exact, hand-illustrated replications of Mike’s art; no digitized, vector format-fucked, compromised trash on these tees. Just that one, small piece of authenticity separates REBEL8 from many of the mass-produced brands on the wrong side of McFashion, and just one of many reasons why we love these dudes.
The first, and most obvious reason, is the art of each design itself. Where Joshy has the business side of REBEL8 on lock, Giant is a dedicated student of not just graffiti and tattooing, but architecture as well – study the prints long enough, remember that they are hand-produced, and you’ll see the connection soon after your mind is recovering from being blown to fucking smithereens. The lines are simply ridiculous, almost unfathomable, requiring a steady, patient hand that only drawing blueprints and constant working with the ink gun for hours upon hours on end could provide. For further proof, just Google/Yahoo! search “Mike Giant Art.” Dude is on-point like heroin addicts.
