I am not sure who still watches BET (I don’t) but a co-worker of mine put me on to an little three part series they did between the Hip Hop Awards called “The Cypher”. The format is pretty simple, one DJ (Primo) and three MCs go back to back.

Cypher Round 1 – Hurricane Chris, K’Naan, Bun B and Q-Tip

Cypher Round 2 – Willy Northploe, Hime, Blaq Poet and Cory Gunz

Cypher Round 3 – Ace Hood, Juelz, Fabolous and Jadakiss

Here are my observations:
1. Over all I am pretty impressed that BET could so something so grass roots and not over complicate it. I would love to see some more.

2. K’Naan had the best verse over all. He really went in.

3. Why did Jada feel the need to big up the diamond trade in Sierra Leone? Why has that become the new slang for diamonds in the rap game? I have heard a few rappers add conflict or blood diamonds to their lyrics and I don’t get why. I think Jada should go to Sierra Leone and meet one of the rebels leaders and spit that verse and he how long it would take to get his arms chopped off. When Kanye did the “Diamonds Are Forever Remix” it wasn’t to big up the diamond trade. But never the less hip hop is always going to be hip hop.

6″ Wheat Timbs used to be my move. They were a classic staple in every urban consumer outfit but then something happened. I started falling in loves with sneakers and could not stand to think about wearing boots ever again.

It was not until 2 years ago I had to take part in a fashion show and for practices they wanted all the guys to wear boots. So I dusted off my old pair of brown leather Chukka Timbs from High School. It was then that I fell in love with boots again. The reason why I was one over was because of the care free nature of boots. With sneakers you always have to be careful where you step or who steps on you. But with boots you can walk anywhere and take a few hits and keep it moving. Boots provided me with the freedom from the burden of fresh kicks. Especially in the New England slushy winter. But now that I recall Wheat Timbs were more fragile then sneakers, remember the eraser and brush and pale ass Timbs from cleaning them too much.

With that said, I need some new boots. Any good ones out there?
