Baltimore-based artist Chris Stain is taking NYC rooftops to the art galleries – and he’s bringing a pigeon coop and live jazz bands with him (no kidding). His mixed media artwork, clearly influenced by street art and gritty urban environs, balances the bleak and the energetic – and with great success, we should add. Using a style owing heavily to stencilling, his work brings fascination and relevance to the everyday and the mundane – look no further than the above painting. This painting, aptly titled ‘Up on the Roof Counting Pigeons,’ is also the namesake of his first solo exhibit, opening February 5th at the Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art, in San Francisco. If you’re in San Fran, make sure to stop in!
