Japanese tech giant Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that it will terminate production of its iconic PlayStation console. Although video games will still be produced for the console, physical production will cease. Having raised Sony’s profit to its peak with 150 million consoles sold world-wide (the 2nd-best selling console of all time), PlayStation 2 has been an worldwide success since it’s release in March 2000. Surpassed by the equally popular PS3, this news is sure to stoke rumors of an upcoming Playstation 4 release, though realistically that’s probably a year or two away. As of now, Sony has not confirmed the development of PlayStation 4.
